Matrimony

Congratulations on your decision to marry within the Catholic Church!

The union of a man and woman in marriage is the first and highest blessing of the Creator. Something new that begins when a man leaves his father and mother and embraces his wife. The two become one flesh. This is the natural meaning of marriage.

It is the privileged place where you create a new life.

Within the marriage relationship, the divine image of each person must find a worthy and noble frame to reach maturity and the ability to discover his own call to communion with God. When men and women share an explicit relationship with Jesus Christ, marriage takes on a greater meaning, which in turn is also transformed by the grace of God.

The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.
CCC # 1601
The sacrament of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church. It gives spouses the grace to love each other with the love with which Christ has loved his Church; the grace of the sacrament thus perfects the human love of the spouses, strengthens their indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life. (cf. Council of Trent: DS 1799).
