Congratulations Rev. Carlos Luzardo!

On Saturday May 9th there will be Priestly ordinations at the Cathedral.

We will have 9 new priests for the Archdiocese of Miami, and one of them, Rev. Carlos Luzardo is from our parish Our Lady of Guadalupe. 

He wants to celebrate his first Mass here with us that same Saturday May 9th.There fore, on Saturday, May 9th and only for that day instead of the two regular Masses at 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm, we will have just one bilingual Massat 6:15 pm, there will not be two Masses but one Mass that day. He will be blessing people from 5:00pm to 6:00pm and after Mass there will be a get together outside the church.

El sábado 9 de Mayo habr á ordena ciones sacerdotales en la Catedral.

Tendremos 9 nuevos sacerdotes para l a Arquidiócesis de Miami, y uno de ellos, el Rev. Carlos Luzardo, es de nuestra parroquia Nuestra Señorade Guadalupe.

Él quiere celebrar su primera Misacon nosotros ese mismo Sábado 9 de Mayo. Por lo tanto, el Sábado 9 de Mayo y sólo porese día, enlugar delas dos Misas regulares de 5:30 pm y 7:00pm, tendremos una sola Misa bilingüe a las 6:15 pm. No habrá dos Misas, sino una Misa ese día. Él bendecirá a la gente de 5:00 pm a 6:00 pm y después de la Misa habrá un compartir afuera de la iglesia.

Our Lady of Fatima

The famous apparitions of the Virgin Mary to the children of Fatima took place during the First World War,in the summer of 1917.The in habitants of this tiny villagein the diocese of Leiria (Portugal) were mostly poor people, many of them small farmers who went out by day to tend their fields and animals. Children traditionally were assigned the task of herding the sheep.

The three children who received the apparitions had been brought up in an atmosphere of genuine piety: Luciados Santos (ten years old) and her two younger cousins, Francisco and Jacinta. Together they tended the sheep and,with Lucy in charge, would often pray the Rosary kneeling in the open. In the summer of 1916an Angel appeared to them several times and taught them a prayer to the Blessed Trinity.

On Sunday, May 13, 1917, toward noon, a flash of lightning drew the attention of the children, and they saw a brilliant figure appearing over the trees of the Cova daIria. The "Lady"asked them to pray for the conversion of sinners and an end to the war, and to come back every month, on the13th.

Further apparitions took place on June 13 and July 13. On August 13 the children were prevented by local authorities from going to the Cova da Iria, but they saw the apparition on the 19th. On September 13 the Lady requested recitation of the Rosary for an end to the war. Finally, on October 13, the "Lady" identified herself as "Our Lady of the Rosary" and again called for prayer and penitence.

On that day a celestial phenomenon also took place: the sun seemed to tumble from the sky and crash toward earth. The children had been for ewarne do fit as early as May 13, the first apparition. The large crowd (estimated at 30,000 by reporters) that had gathered around the children saw the phenomenon and came away astounded.

Official recognition of the"visions"which the children had att he Cova da Iria came on October 13,1930, when the bishop of Leiria-after long inquiry - authorized the cult of Our Lady of the Rosary at the site. The two younger children had died: Francisco (who saw the apparition but did not hear the words) on April 4,1919, and hissister Jacintaon February 20, 1920. Sister Lucia died on February   13, 2005, ather Carmelite convent in Coimbra, Portugal, after a long illness.

Las famosas apariciones de la Virgen María a los niños de Fátima tuvieron lugar durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, en el verano de 1917. Los habitantes de este pequeño pueblo de la diócesis de Leiria (Portugal) eran en su mayoría gente pobre, muchos de ellos pequeños agricultores que salían de día a cuidar sus campos y animales. Tradicionalmente, a los niños se les asignaba la tarea de pastorear las ovejas.

Los tres niños que recibieron las apariciones habían sido criados en un ambiente de genuina piedad: Lucía dos Santos (de diez años) y sus dos primos menores, Francisco Marto y Jacinta Marto. Juntos cuidaban las ovejas y, con Lucía a cargo, a menudo rezaban el Rosario de rodillas al aire libre. En el verano de 1916 se les apareció un Ángel varias veces y les enseñó una oración a la Santísima Trinidad.

El domingo 13 de mayo de 1917, hacia el mediodía, un relámpago llamó la atención de los niños, y vieron aparecer una figura brillante sobre los árboles de la Cova da Iria. La "Señora" les pidió que oraran por la conversión de los pecadores y el fin de la guerra, y que volvieran todos los meses, el día 13.

Otras apariciones tuvieron lugar el 13 de junio y el 13 de julio. El 13 de agosto, las autoridades locales impidieron que los niños fueran a Cova da Iria, pero vieron la aparición el 19. El 13 de septiembre la Señora pidió el rezo del Rosario por el fin de la guerra. Finalmente, el 13 de octubre, la "Señora" se identificó como "Nuestra Señora del Rosario" y volvió a llamar a la oración y la penitencia.

Ese día también tuvo lugar un fenómeno celestial: el sol pareció caer del cielo y estrellarse contra la tierra. Los niños habían sido advertidos desde el 13 de mayo, la primera aparición. La gran multitud (estimada en 30.000 por los reporteros) que se había reunido alrededor de los niños vio el fenómeno y salió atónita.

El reconocimiento oficial de las "visiones" que tuvieron los niños en Cova da Iria se produjo el 13 de octubre de 1930, cuando el obispo de Leiria, tras una larga investigación, autorizó el culto de Nuestra Señora del Rosario en el lugar. Los dos hijos menores habían muerto: Francisco (que vio la aparición pero no escuchó las palabras) el 4 de abril de 1919 y su hermana Jacinta el 20 de febrero de 1920. Sor Lucía murió el 13 de febrero de 2005, en su convento carmelita de Coimbra, después de una larga enfermedad.
